Donald Trump, the former president of the United States, does not know whether the indictment against New York City mayor Eric Adams is “legitimate” but he believes it to be “very suspicious” after the mayor had criticized the Biden Administration’s handling on immigration.
Adams was indicted in federal court on corruption charges last month after multiple investigations into his group. He maintains his innocence, despite the charges. Trump was interviewed on Fox News Fox and Friends, on Friday. He was asked if he had said anything to Adams during the Al Smith Charity Dinner in New York.
“The weaponization now it’s, look, I’ve been investigated more than Alphonse Capone. I say it, but Adams, he came out against the immigrants — against the destruction of New York, frankly,” Trump said. “He did the right thing. I said he will be indicted within six months. And he was. They indicted it.”
“I don’t even know if this is legit.” I haven’t seen it but it sounds very suspicious. They’re destroying our country. He added, “They are destroying our nation.”
Trump then went on to praise his legal win in the classified document case, which had been dismissed by a federal court, and said that indictments were meant to “keep people federal authorities don’t like busy.”
“These people are evil.” This is a really bad group of people. I am doing very well. I won in Florida. I am winning everywhere. You know, they just want to keep him busy. “Let me spend a lot of money to fight it and let him perhaps — but I believe so far, this has backfired because the public understands,” Trump stated.
Trump made jokes about Adams’s arrest and predicted that the mayor would win the case.
“You’re going to win; I think you’re going to win. I know you’re going to win. So good luck,” Trump added.
It is a tradition for both major candidates to attend the charity dinner. However, Vice President Kamala Harris was the first candidate from a major party since Walter Mondale walked out in 1984. She recorded prerecorded comments that were played during the dinner.
