The mother of Colt Gray – the teenager accused of the mass shooting that occurred at Apalachee High School, Georgia, earlier this month – is facing charges relating to her treatment towards her mother.

Marcee Grey, 43, has been charged with elder abuse and false imprisonment as well as several other crimes relating to an incident that occurred in November 2023 involving Deborah Polhamus, her mother. This new development is a significant addition to the tragedy that left two students, two teachers, and Polhamus dead.

Gray was indicted last week for allegedly tapping her mother, who was then 73 years old, to a chair at her Fitzgerald home. The incident happened after Polhamus refused her daughter’s request to accompany her on a visit to confront her former husband, Colin Gray.

Marcee, according to Fox News, was angry with her mother for refusing to let her use her phone. She also damaged other property in the house. According to law enforcement, she allegedly said that “she would tie [her] up and take her phone so [she] wouldn’t be able to call anyone.”

The incident took place on Nov. 3, after Marcee demanded her mother accompany her to confront her ex, Colin Gray, Colt Gray’s father.

Marcee was accused of tape-taping her mother, stealing the iPhone of her mother, damaging the bathroom mirror, and damaging the back door to the woman’s house when she refused.

Marcee is accused in the incident report of hitting her mother with a wall and causing her to cut her wrist. Marcee is alleged to have said that, since her mother refused to leave, she would tie her to a seat and take her cell phone so she wouldn’t be able to call anyone.

Polhamus was injured and bruised, but she told police that “she didn’t want Marcee to be a felon the rest of Marcee’s life.”

Polhamus, a rat, was discovered by a friend about 24 hours after the initial discovery. Annie Brown, Marcee’s sister, was concerned when she couldn’t reach her mother on the phone. She asked a friend to check up on her.

Colin Gray, Colt Gray’s father is also in legal trouble. He was charged with multiple charges, including four counts of felony killing and other charges related to the school shooting. Colt was on the FBI radar after he made threats to commit a school shootout in 2023. After interviewing the 14-year-old, the officers decided that they didn’t have enough proof to act.

Colin is accused of knowingly permitting his son to obtain the rifle that he used during the attack.

Cole Gray’s father is Colin Gray. Colin Gray is charged with four counts of involuntary homicide, two counts of second-degree murder, and eight counts of cruelty to children. These charges are a result of Mr. Gray’s allowing his son, Colt Gray, to possess a firearm. Colt Gray is facing four counts of felony homicide.

Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smit addressed the media following Hosey’s remarks and reiterated the call to support the community, students, teachers, and their families. He said he is happy to announce that all nine people who were treated in area hospitals after the shooting will make a complete recovery. This, he noted, is a testament to the response of the medical staff that treated them. Two of the nine injured were teachers and adults; the remaining seven were students.

According to Fox News, Marcee is facing several criminal charges involving drug use and damage to property. Later, she expressed regret for the shooting. In an open letter, she apologized to the families and parents of those who were affected by the tragic incidents at Apalachee High School.
