The Harris campaign responded to revelations by federal agencies that Iranian actors targeted individuals linked to the Biden Campaign with stolen Trump campaign material via emails. They stated that they are not aware of any materials being sent “directly to the Biden Campaign”, but that certain people have received emails through their accounts.
Morgan Finkelstein, spokesperson for the Harris-Walz Campaign said: “We have worked with law enforcement agencies since we learned that people associated with Biden’s campaign at the time were the intended targets of this foreign influence campaign.”
Finkelstein said: “We are not aware that any material was sent directly to the campaign. A few individuals were targeted via their email with what appeared to be a spam or Phishing attempt.” Finkelstein added: “We condemn any attempt by foreign actors, including this unwelcomed and unacceptable malicious activity.”
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the FBI, and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency said that “Iranian malicious hackers sent emails in late June and July to individuals associated with the campaign of President Biden, which contained text taken from stolen non-public material of former President Trump’s election campaign.”
The statement went on to say that “there is no indication at this time” that the recipients responded. “Furthermore Iranian malicious cyber actors continue to work since June to send stolen non-public materials associated with the former President Trump campaign to U.S. Media organizations.”
These agencies stated that Iran uses a multi-pronged strategy to “stoke unrest and undermine confidence in the electoral process” by using “malicious cyber activities.”
The statement read: “As a lead in threat response, the FBI has tracked this activity and has been in touch with the victims. It will continue to gather information and investigate to pursue the threat actors and disrupt them,” it said. As we near November, foreign actors will increase their efforts to influence the election. Russia, Iran, and China, in particular, are trying to increase divisions within the U.S. for their gain, and view election periods as vulnerable moments.
Karoline Leavitt said that the Iranians were actively intervening in the elections to help Kamala and Joe Biden because they knew President Trump would restore his harsh sanctions and stand up against their reigns of terror.
“Kamala Biden and the Iranians must be honest about whether they used the material that was given to them to harm President Trump. What did they learn and when? She said this in a written statement.
Officials from the Harris campaign said that “the material was not used.”
Federal authorities have said that they foiled Iranian assassination plans against U.S. political figures in the last few months. U.S. officials claim that Trump, President Biden, and Nikki Haley were all targets. A Pakistani man who has deep ties with Iran was charged in Brooklyn federal court earlier this week for allegedly paying undercover agents to be hitmen and carry out the summer assassinations.
In the past two months, Trump faced two assassination plots, one at a rally held in Butler, Pennsylvania, and another at his golf course in West Palm Beach. Authorities have not publicly linked either of these plots to Iran.
