Capcom’s zombie horror video game “Resident Evil”, which is wildly popular, has never been made into a live-action version. Although the Resident Evil films starring Milla Jovovich may have a cult following they aren’t mass-marketable.
Netflix took a chance and lost by a mile. It had terrible story writing, poor character development, bizarre decisions about how established characters acted, race swaps, and other cringeworthy moments. The show suffered in terms of viewership and was not loved by audiences. It currently has a Rotten Tomatoes audience score of 26 percent.
Deadline reports that Netflix had already canceled the show after only one season.
Netflix decided not to order Resident Evil 2, its horror action series loosely inspired by the video game franchise. This news comes just a month and a half after the series’ July 14, release. The streamer’s top renewal criteria are cost vs. watching, which was not a strong indicator that the drama had a strong showing on Netflix’s Top 10.
Resident Evil’s debut at No. 2 partly because it was partially in the shadows of the mega-genre hit Stranger Things which was released in the same timeframe. It ranked 2 with an impressive 72.7 million hours of viewing for its first weekend. However, it did not achieve the huge Week 2 boost one would expect for a new series due to word-of-mouth spreading. It raked in 73.3M views in its second week for No. After three weeks, it dropped precipitously to the bottom of the Top 10 and was removed from the Top 10. Resident Evil’s latest incarnation received a disappointing 55% rating from Rotten Tomatoes critics and a 27% audience score.
The Netflix live adaptation of “Cowboy Bebop”, a classic anime, was subject to something very similar. It was canceled just three weeks after it had been released. The live-action “Bebop,” like “Resident Evil,” was heavy on leftist sentiments and odd story choices.
Another proof that being woke is going broke. Television that allows real-world politics to dictate art decisions only makes art that should be ignored.
It’s clear that Netflix’s “Resident Evil,” Netflix series, was going to be canceled quickly. However, it seemed certain that it would go down in the ratings and reviews. Netflix, like Warner Bros., is apparently moving away from woke programming, and this live-action monstrosity would be the last remnants of a Netflix.
Netflix announced that the production of several woke programs would be stopped. This includes shows such as “anti-racist Baby” and a feminist animated series from Meghan Markle.
My theory is that “Resident Evil,” was going to be canceled shortly after it was released. This decision had been made long before it reached the streaming service. It was likely that it was due to contractual obligations, and because Netflix had already invested so much money in it. Based on the Netflix content and comments by its CEO urging leftists to take a hike in the face of what they see, it is safe to assume that “Resident Evil”, as I have seen it, wasn’t appropriate for the new direction.
This show is too modern and modernity is not selling.
