On Sunday, two people were critically injured after a tanker truck explosion on a busy highway in Texas near Giddings.
The explosion occurred on U.S. Highway 290 on Sunday afternoon, east of Giddings. This is about an hour to the east of Austin.
Emergency crews from a variety of agencies responded quickly to the scene, not only to tend to the fires and rescue the critically injured but also to provide backup and support.
According to a post on Facebook by Lee County EMS, paramedics responded quickly to the call and transported two patients to a hospital near Austin.
The fire was responded to by the Giddings Police Department and Giddings Fire Department as well as the Lee County Sheriff’s Department and Texas Department of Public Safety.
The explosion caused the authorities to block the highway and redirect traffic around the incident.
