Multiple reports claim that Robert Saleh, who was fired on Tuesday as the head coach of the New York Jets, was escorted from their team facility.

Adam Gase was the Jets’ most recently fired head coach. He was fired at the end of his second year and was not removed from the premises by security.

At the time of publication, The Jets had not yet responded to an inquiry for comment.

Woody Johnson, the team owner, issued a statement shortly following the announcement of the firing. In it, he stated that Jeff Ulbrich, the defensive coordinator, will be the interim head for the rest of the season.

“This morning I informed Robert Saleh he would no longer be the Jets’ Head Coach.” Johnson thanked Saleh for his three-and-a-half years of hard work and wished his family and him well going forward.

“This decision was not easy, but I think now is the right time to change our direction. We are not performing up to expectations and we should take a new path. Jeff Ulbrich has been appointed as Interim Head Coach. He will be in charge for the rest of the season. He is a hard coach, who has earned the respect of all the players and coaches on the team.”

“I think he, along with the other coaches on the staff, can make the most of our talented group and achieve the goals that we set this offseason.”

Saleh plans to take a vacation with his family, before preparing for interviews to become a defensive coordinator during the next round of hiring.

Saleh was fired more than a week after the Jets’ loss to the Vikings, who were undefeated. Aaron Rodgers, who is presumably fit and healthy, has been at the helm of the offense for the Jets’ first two games.

New York ranks 25th for points scored, and 27th for yards gained. It also has a top-five defense.

Rodgers’ performance is that of a quarterback in his 40s who has just recovered from an Achilles rupture. He has 1,093 yards passing, seven touchdowns and four interceptions.

Saleh, the former defensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers, was hired as the Jets’ head coach in the year 2021. Saleh won only seven games in a season with New York and was 20-36 overall.

After the team’s 2021 third-round pick, quarterback Zach Wilson played poorly, was benched several times in his first three years, and Rodgers injured himself in the first match of the last year, his tenure was marred by inconsistent quarterback performance.
