Former President Donald Trump said that “a lot” of people do not have enough money to buy “a whole basket” of groceries.
Trump said to Elon in a live interview with X, “We have to bring down the prices.” “You know when I see bacon costs four to five times as much as it did just a few short years ago. People are shocked when they see the prices of some food items in supermarkets. People used to have enough money to buy an entire cart. Today, many people simply don’t. They can’t afford anything when they go to the store.”
Trump said in the interview that people “can’t afford to buy groceries” because they lack money.
Trump stated, “The election is coming and people want to know about the economy, including the fact they cannot buy groceries because they do not have enough money.” “The inflation killed them. Food prices are up by 50, 60 or even 100 percent, in some cases.”
The prices of groceries have increased under the Biden administration. According to TheStreet, food prices increased by 10.4 percent in 2020 and 6.3 percent in 2021. In 2023 the rise in food prices was “slowed down” to just 2.7 percent.
According to the outlet, supply chain problems, rising production costs, and increased demand are some of the factors that have led to food prices increasing.
