According to a Ukrainian official, and Russian media on Wednesday, Ukrainian drones struck a large Russian depot overnight. According to reports, the strike sparked a large fire, forcing some residents to flee. It was conducted after a senior U.S. diplomat said that the secret plan announced by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for winning the war, could “work”.

Ukraine says the strike destroyed Toropets’ military storage. Toropets, a Russian town in the Tver region located about 240 miles northwest of Moscow and 300 miles away from Ukraine’s borders, is claimed to have destroyed military storage.

An anonymous Kyiv official told the Associated Press that the attack had been carried out by Ukraine Intelligence and Special Operations Forces along with the Security Service. According to the official, the depot housed glide bombs, Iskander, and Tochka-U. After the strike, the official reported that fires spread over a 4-mile-wide area.

RIA Novosti is the state-run Russian news agency. Regional authorities were quoted by RIA Novosti as saying that air defense systems had worked to repel a drone attack on Toropets. The town of Toropets has a total population of 11,000, according to the Russian state-run news agency RIA Novosti.

There was no immediate information available on the number of deaths that could have been caused by this strike.

As the war progressed and Kyiv developed drone technologies, more Ukrainians were successful in hitting targets deep inside Russia.

Zelenskyy wants his Western partners’ permission to allow Ukraine to use advanced weapons they have provided to strike targets inside Russia. Western leaders fear being drawn into a conflict and are reluctant to accept this possibility.

Last Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the U.S., its NATO allies, and European countries would be viewed as “nothing more than the direct participation of NATO or the United States in the war in Ukraine,” if Ukraine used Western-made rockets to strike targets deep inside Russia.

Kyiv’s strategy includes using drones, and existing weapons to target Russian military equipment and weapons in Russia. It also wants to make Russian civilians feel the effects of the conflict fought mainly in Ukraine.

This plan explains the Ukrainians’ sudden push last month into Russia’s border area of Kursk. The Ukrainians were attempting to get Putin to concede.

Putin has shown no signs that he is doing this. Putin has attempted to weaken Ukraine by attritional warfare and to weaken Western resolve to support Kyiv by prolonging the conflict.

Putin ordered the military to increase its number by 180,000 soldiers by December 1, bringing it to 1.5 million.

Zelenskyy said last month that his plan for victory included not only battlefield goals but also diplomatic and economic wins. The plan has been kept under wraps but U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield said during a news conference Tuesday that officials in Washington had seen it.

She said, “We think it’s a good strategy and plan.” “The United States would bring the issue up with other world leaders at the U.N. General Assembly in New York next week.”
