We reported that it has been a difficult week for easily-triggered sports media personalities. It started with the backlash against their unhinged eruptions about Philadephia Flyers’ player Ivan Provorov refusing to take part in a “Pride Night” pregame warmup, which featured players wearing Pride-themed jerseys. A reporter from NHL Network was so upset that he urged Provorov not to return to Russia. This is ironic given Vladimir Putin’s intolerance for other viewpoints.
Another example of woke sports journalists going crazy, Dave Zirin, the “The Nation” sports editor, was utterly distraught when he learned that Tony Dungy (a former NFL player and coach) would be attending the March for Life in Washington, D.C.
The rally began when Dungy, along with his wife Lauren, took to Twitter to announce their participation. Dungy said that he and Lauren were looking forward to attending the rally with “thousands” of other people who would be there to support unborn babies without a voice.
Dungy’s comment that he and his wife were about to march peacefully in support of the unborn set Zirin ablaze, it turned out. A few hours later, he wrote a hit piece and then posted a tweet about it. It’s not about his pro-life views. Zirin considers Dungy a “right-wing extremeist”, as he believes that fathers should be present in children’s lives. He also opposes transgender women being allowed to take part in women’s sport.
It was not accidental that he mentioned the NFL and NBC in his tweet and in his article. Dungy for WrongThink should be cancelled. This has been done before by other woke writers, and has failed every time Dungy has spoken on some of the many woke issues in the NFL.
Some on Twitter agreed with Zirin’s position, such as Keith Olbermann (failed MSNBC anchor) and Keith Olbermann (failed ESPN commentator).
“Dear @nbcsports, if there is any concern about your operational reputation, you should fire Tony Dungy immediately. Olbermann snorted, “He is using you.”
However, there was more to their disagreement than just Jason Whitlock (an independent sports commentator) who didn’t mince words.
Whitlock wrote that Massa Zirin was upset Tony Dungy wouldn’t accept massa’s political views. “Massa Zirin is very upset that a black man would support the March for Life. Massa would prefer to see babies killed in the womb, especially black babies. Massa wants Dungy to be fired. Massa love dead & unemployed negroes.
Another Twitter user responded by asking Zirin “Are we gonna be okay knowing that there’s a man of color who disagrees with our politics?”
I think it is fair to say that the NFL has many bad actors who are worthy of ridicule for some of their actions and words. Dungy is undoubtedly one the most decent men out there, and he goes out of his way for the best of any uncomfortable or difficult situations.
Dungy is a Christian conservative who doesn’t mind expressing his pro-life and pro-family views. He must be removed from office by “tolerant” people like Zirin or Olbermann.
