This week, the Biden administration announced that the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services will increase fees for legal immigrants who apply for green cards, visas, and permits. This is to help reduce the backlog of asylum applications that have been caused by historical surges in illegal immigration to the southern border.
According to the Daily Caller, Joe Biden’s border crisis created a long-running backlog of asylum applications. Applicants have to wait on average 4.3 years to appear before a court. USCIS reports that Biden’s proposal to raise H-1B application fees will increase the cost of skilled workers to $60 to $780, non-agricultural employees to $460 to $11,080, and green card applicants to $1,140 to $1.540 to $1.540. Fee increases will generate $5.2 billion to $6.4 billion annually in additional revenue. $1.9 billion of that money will be used for resources to reduce the backlog.
This is the norm with the Biden administration which has caused the nation’s worst border crisis since its inception. It inherited a secure border from Donald Trump. It is hard to believe that anyone would choose to punish legal immigrants by charging higher fees to speed up the process of illegal aliens seeking asylum in our country.
