A new proposal could soon grant illegal immigrants in California access to subsidized cell phone bills.

California LifeLine is a subsidy for residents of the state who are low-income. The Public Utilities Commission, which oversees this program, will vote on September 26 on whether to extend eligibility to people without Social Security Numbers.

According to Politico, Alice Reynolds, the agency’s commissioner, said that if an undocumented Californian is in need, they should be able to benefit from the program.

The Commission promised to make such accommodations for illegal immigration over a decade before but never did.

California is known for its programs that assist illegal immigrants. However, Democratic Party leaders are urging lawmakers to put the brakes on as the national platform moves away from open borders and sanctuary cities.

Gavin Newsom has taken action to stop legislation that could be viewed as being too tolerant of foreigners living illegally in America.

The California Legislature advanced AB 1840 last month. This program, also known as “California Dream for All,” would give first-time buyers up to 20% of a house’s value, or up to $150,000.

Newsom vetoed this bill, citing the explicit intent to include illegal immigrants in the program of assistance.

This bill seeks a prohibition on the disqualification from a California Housing Finance Agency (CalHFA), home purchase assistance program based solely upon an applicant’s immigration status. Newsom wrote in his veto that, given the limited funding for CalHFA’s programs, expanding eligibility should be carefully considered as part of the overall state budget. This will ensure we are managing our resources efficiently.
