Cole Sprouse, a well-known child star, has starred in films such as “Big Daddy,” “Friends”, and the Disney Channel hit “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody,” co-starring his twin brother, Dylan.
Behind the scenes, there were also dark moments at home. Sprouse speaks out in an interview on “The Diary of a chief executive officer” podcast about these problems.
Spouse began acting at eight months of age when his mother Melanie placed him on commercials for diapers.
He stated that his acting career started because of his financial situation. She was in many ways living vicariously through the success of her children.
Sprouse was young when his parents split. Sprouse stated that he only has one memory of the two of them together. Sprouse was given primary custody at that time by the courts to his brother and his mother.
He was asked if he felt like he was “pushed” into acting, and he answered, “I would hardly call it pushing because I was eight months old. I don’t even think I knew, you know, I was onscreen, I don’t remember much of … the diaper commercials and things like that, so the choice never really existed. I was there. That’s it.”
“My mother was, still is, the kind of tortured artist type, she struggled with, in very many ways, her place in the world,” Sprouse continued. “I think she found a tremendous amount of self-identity through motherhood and tried to turn it into a profitable business at the same time … so that’s what she did.”
He said that while it was financially prudent for his mother to have her children in the acting business, it was a form of narcissism for her to be recognized as an artist success. As the years passed, I believe that the entertainment industry finally broke her.
Riverdale’s star stated that the industry encourages selfishness, greed, and other “most serious sins.” “It encouraged selfishness that was in direct opposition to the fundamental idea of motherhood. ”
Sprouse said that eventually, things reached a point where “the court had to step in and rend us and our brother towards our father. An incredible man. But that selfishness was something that legal systems also observed, and declared her unfit. ”
Looking back, you can see that the “Big Daddy” star stated, “I see a person with mental illness, substance abuse, and primarily narcissism. Wicked narcissism is the worst illness I see. It is the inability or inability to see things from different perspectives.
The podcast host asked Sprouse when he discovered his mother’s strange behavior. Sprouse replied that he thought it was when social workers knocked on his door that it happens. He said, “I don’t know whether I would go to his place as my mother was granted primary custody by the court. It should have been my father taking custody.
He stated that although he didn’t like his father’s strict rules, he felt more secure and happy with his mother who let him do what he wanted.
He refused to go further into how his mother was deemed unfit to maintain primary custody because “I don’t ever want to be perceived as a victim of it. I am not, and never will be, a victim of any circumstance that I am in. I don’t like to wear victimhood on my shoulder. I don’t like to act like I am my wounds, to repeatedly be reminded of my wounds. What happened in my youth happened and carved and forged me into the person I am today.”
