Hurricane Helene has ravaged multiple states, after tearing through Florida and moving up to North Carolina. Flooding has caused entire cities to be underwater. People are in desperate need of help. It is important to have a president with empathy and leadership. Joe Biden will be the president of the United States for at least another few months.
Biden answered a few questions at Joint Base Andrews, but his answers weren’t the best. He told reporters in a bizarre exchange that he “spoke to both sides” when asked about Israeli attacks on the Houthis of Yemen. He said he was in favor of the “collective agreement” and hoped that the “strike would soon end.”
Reporter: “Any comment on the strikes in Yemen?”
Biden: “I’ve spoken to both sides. They gotta settle the strike. I’m supporting the collective bargaining effort. I think they’ll settle the strike.”

What was he saying? Nobody knows. It’s amazing how old he has become. But another response went beyond his noted mental decline. Here’s what the president said when asked about Hurricane Helene.
“Do you have any words to the victims of the hurricane?”
BIDEN: “We’ve given everything that we have.”
“Are there any more resources the federal government could be giving them?”
BIDEN: “No.” pic.twitter.com/jDMNGhpjOz

He looks rough. This is not what people trapped in their homes due to flooding need to hear at this time. The federal government should be able to take an “as long it takes” stance regarding Ukraine if it can do so. It’s not enough to say that the administration has no other options. Biden should do all he can to help those in need. Biden’s response gives the impression that, despite his lack of concern and dismissal for the Maui Fire victims, he will be happy to deal with Hurricane Helene victims.
The federal government will not allow people to access their property to rebuild their homes. The federal government gave them a $700 cheque and asked that they continue to pay their mortgages after a set time. I don’t think the government should or can fix everything. But if it is going to spend hundreds of billions on Ukraine and other foreign causes then maybe a small amount of money could be spent in the United States.
Anger at the Biden Administration is palpable. The situation is seen by many as a complete reversal of priorities.
Billions to migrants and we’ve got state senators on twitter looking for generators. Insanity. https://t.co/7VOKFn7cVb

Media would be going absolutely nuts if president Trump responded to Hurricane Helene like Biden has.

The Harris-Biden Administration has given billions to Ukraine yet said there’s “nothing left” for the citizens suffering and dying due to Hurricane Helene
Once again, a total lack of leadership from the White House. pic.twitter.com/rk9BiEOCTp

Every newspaper would run headlines if Donald Trump washed away a major catastrophe and claimed that the federal government had nothing more to offer. The colossal disaster is about to unfold. The death toll will be high and recovery time will be long. The President of the United States needs to show that he is in it for the long run. Biden did not have a problem with that when he politicized Hurricane Maria in the 2020 elections. The dismissive tone he uses now that he is in charge is a microcosm for his entire tenure.
