After a hit from Tee Higgins, safety for the Buffalo Bills, Damar Hamlin experienced cardiac arrest. He was in critical condition when medical personnel attempted to perform CPR.

After seeing Hamlin drop like that, and seeing the scarring he had endured, many were concerned about Hamlin’s health. Hamlin’s family thanked everyone who had prayed for him.

“On behalf of our family, we would like to express our deep gratitude for all the support and love shown to Damar during this difficult time.” The statement said, “We are deeply touched by the kind words, prayers, and donations received from fans across the country.”

There are some positive developments in his health.

Kaiir Elam of the Buffalo Bills, a cornerback for the team, said that Hamlin was awake and showing signs of improvement.

“Our boy is doing better, awake and showing more signs of improvement,” Elam tweeted. “Thank you, God. Keep the prayers coming, please. All love 3!”

According to Omar Jiminez, a CNN reporter reported that Hamlin was still awake and holding hands with his family at the hospital.

On Thursday, the Buffalo Bills released an update stating that Hamlin had shown “remarkable improvements” and, while still critically ill (although he was not yet fully recovered), he was “neurologically sound,” which is an extremely important sign.

They stated that his lungs were healing well and that he was making steady progress.

Hamlin has been touched by the concern of so many people that they have asked for donations to Hamlin’s charity toy drive. GoFundMe has now raised over $7 million.

It is hard to believe that the prayers of so many people helped him and that he will continue to make improvements.
