Haley: ‘I Wouldn’t Have Run for President if I Believed Trump Was a Strong Candidate’

Have you ever witnessed a politician who is unable to move on from losing primaries continue to make snide remarks about the candidate that beat them? It’s even better when the bitter loser continues to put the winner in the dirt without being blatant about it. Then welcome to the latest episode of Nikki Can’t Get Past It.

Yes, the former South Carolina governor. Nikki Haley appeared on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” broadcast Sunday, to let viewers know that she would not have run for President if she had thought Donald Trump was “a great candidate.”

Haley clarified: “I ran for a better job because I believed I could.”

Haley, on the other hand, is not the Republican nominee for 2024. CBS host Margaret Brennan, recognizing this reality, asked Haley if she would be open to campaigning for Trump during the final weeks.

You stated that you were on standby. You haven’t even been asked to run for office. Do you have any advice on the debate or his campaign?

Haley said (feigned?)

It’s not me and it’s his decision. He has the right to decide what he wants to do for his campaign. When I called him in June, he knew I was behind him. The teams have spoken a bit but no one has asked yet. You know, if he should ask, I would be happy to help.

What’s the deal, now that Nikki has publicly stated that she doesn’t think Trump is a “great” candidate and that she believes she could have “done a better job?”

Brennan couldn’t contain her Trump Derangement Syndrome and turned to the former president for his alleged “sexual abuse” of writer E. Jean Carroll. (Trump wants to overturn a $5m judgment that found him responsible for sexually abusing the writer and defaming her.)

You have a list of specific policy concerns. Donald Trump, who is currently in New York, just wrapped up a presser that lasted three-quarters about his past conviction for alleged sexual abuse.

When you ran for office, I remember you saying that you had no real reason to doubt the verdict in the defamation suit brought by E. Jean Carroll.

It’s not about the details, but is this the best use of his time? And what message is being sent to women voters by having to go through it again?

Margaret, what is the answer to your question?

Haley insisted that the focus is on the policy. Brennan, however, continued: “But he is the candidate.”

I have always said that if I had thought Biden or Trump would be great candidates, then I wouldn’t even have run for President. I ran for president because I believed I could do a more effective job.

Brennan: “You still don’t like him as a candidate?”

Haley then went Haley, trying to have it both ways.

I believe he’s the Republican nominee and I would put him up against Kamala, the Democrat nominee. For me, it’s not a question. Do I like his style? Do I agree or disagree with his approach? No. The differences are evident when I examine the policies, how they will affect my family, and how I believe they will affect the country.

These are the candidates that we’ve been presented with. It’s amazing to see what Kamala Harris has done. She had never debated, never been in a primary, and never received a vote. They took her and, within 48 hours, she was a completely new candidate. She has a track record. The administration has an impressive record.

Trump has a track record. So neither is perfect or ideal. But when I compare the two, I’m not sure which one I prefer. I disagree with Trump in some areas but agree with his policies on others. Harris’ policies are not something I would agree with. When women vote, I believe they will consider how this policy affects their families. What is the impact on our finances? What are the implications for safety and national security?

As a voter, I chose Trump because I have seen the results of his policies. I know that our economy is better now under Trump. I know that our national security was improved under Trump. I know our energy was dominant during Trump’s tenure, and if we are looking at ways to bring it back on track, he is probably the best person to help us.

It almost sounds as if Haley views Trump as the lesser evil.

Do I believe Nikki will get that call asking her to run for office from Trump? Nope. In this strange presidential election season, anything is possible.

Should I say that nothing will surprise me? Let’s just go with it.
