According to BBC India’s road traffic safety is notoriously bad. BBC reports that more than 100,000 people are killed in road accidents every year. Bus operators ignore safety regulations, and they overpack their buses.

Most crashes are caused by reckless driving, poor road conditions, and old vehicles.

In one of India’s most tragic accidents in the past decade, a century-old bridge collapsed into a river last year. At least 132 people were killed.

BBC reported 25 deaths in another incident that occurred last summer when a wedding procession bus slid off the road and fell into a ravine.

In 2021, an overcrowded bus in central India drove off a bridge and into a river. At least forty people died.
