The judge who presided over the case involving former President Trump and his classified documents unveiled several documents on Monday evening. These documents relate to the FBI investigation into the ex-president, as well as the FBI raid at Mar-a-Lago in 2022.
U.S. district judge Aileen Cannon had ordered the release of the new documents. They provided a detailed look at the personnel involved in raiding Mar-a-Lago, and also a timeline of events. One of the documents, an FBI file, suggests that the agency’s probe into Trump’s alleged mishandling of classified documents has been dubbed “Plasmic Echo.”
The document states: “This document contains confidential information which is only available to participants in the case.” The document also states “PLASMIC ECHO; Mishandling classified or national defense information, Unknown subject; Sensitive investigation matter.”
A second FBI memo, which was not sealed, recalled the role played by Attorney General Merrick G. Garland during the investigation.
Garland gave his approval in a document dated March 30, 2022, to upgrade the investigation into Trump’s alleged mishandling of classified documents from a “limited investigation” to a full investigation.
“This email conveys Department of Justice (DOJ) Attorney General (AG) [Merrick Garland] approval for conversion to a full investigation,” a synopsis of the restricted document reads.
