A campaign worker opened a package containing a “suspicious substance” on Tuesday, and the office of Arizona GOP Senate Candidate Kari Lake was placed under lockdown.

A spokesperson for the campaign said that a campaign intern in Phoenix opened an envelope containing a suspicious substance with a warning note saying “caution, anthrax.”

The campaign prompted a response from multiple law enforcement agencies, including a hazmat squad.

Authorities have yet to confirm if the substance is anthrax. The spokesperson for the campaign said that the substance was being tested and the FBI is conducting an investigation.

Lake stated in a press release, “The radical left has intensified its attacks on me, from legal harassment and baseless smears to physical threats, with the help of mainstream media. My office received an envelope today that was suspicious and could have contained anthrax. This was an attempt to intimidate me and silence my voice This is not about me, it’s a direct attack on our movement. I will not be intimidated and the perpetrators must be brought to trial. Now is the time to unite and fight against these un-American, dangerous tactics.”
