Authorities report that a police officer riding a motorcycle in Northern California was killed during a traffic check by a driver who had allegedly been drugged.
California Highway Patrol reported that Vacaville motorcycle police officer Matthew Bowen was performing a traffic check on Thursday morning when he got hit behind by another vehicle.
Bowen died in a hospital, according to authorities.
Serena C.J., 24, is the suspect. The highway patrol reported that Rodriguez tried to flee the scene but was stopped by witnesses who saw the accident.
The highway patrol reported that authorities determined Rodriguez drove “while under drug influence”.
CHP reported that she was arrested for homicide, driving under the influence, and causing injury or death.
Vacaville officers have now begun to mourn Bowen. He is survived by Bowen’s wife, two children, parents, and a sibling.
Vacaville Police said: “He served with the greatest level of honor and dedication, and we are deeply saddened by his loss.”
Bowen joined the Vacaville Police Department a year ago. Bowen was previously an officer at the nearby Concord Police Department.
