Mark Robinson, the North Carolina gubernatorial nominee, hired an attorney with experience working for President Trump to investigate allegations made by Robinson that he had made controversial remarks on a porn site.
Robinson is currently the Republican lieutenant governor running against Democratic State Attorney General Josh Stein for the position of Democratic Governor. Roy Cooper, the battleground governor in North Carolina, hired Binnall Law Group of northern Virginia to investigate claims made in a CNN article published earlier in the week.
Binnall explained, “Normally, an investigation like this would take a few months or even years.” “We cannot do that because voters want an answer to this question before the elections.” We will move quickly, but still provide a detailed report.
Binnall stated that Robinson “absolutely denies” saying anything in the CNN article. My investigation will follow the facts. This is something we will investigate thoroughly. We will not leave any stone unturned. We will be aggressive. “The citizens of North Carolina deserve no less than an investigation into this matter. That is exactly what we will do.”
Binnall explained, “One of the problems of these October surprise hype reports on someone is that it doesn’t allow you to respond fully, to show voters that the accusations were wrong and that they could end up deceiving the voters.” “My team knows that it is important to move quickly, and very quickly, to find the truth. This will allow us to be held accountable for the real facts in this case.”
CNN reported on comments Robinson made allegedly more than 10 years ago on a message board of a porn website. These included Robinson calling himself a “black NAZI,” saying he liked transgender pornography, saying that in 2012 he preferred Hitler over then-President Barack Obama, and criticizing Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. as “worse” than a maggot, according to the CNN report.
Robinson denies saying these words. However, Republicans are beginning to distance themselves, as if elected the candidate would become North Carolina’s very first Black Governor. Trump didn’t mention Robinson at his rally in Wilmington, North Carolina on Saturday, even though he had endorsed him before the March primaries and he has spoken to other Trump events.
On Monday, the Republican Governors Association announced that it would not be renewing its advertising buy in North Carolina. Robsinson wrote in a post on Wednesday on X that he had spoken with Republican leaders throughout the state, and made it clear to them that “this election is about policies, not people.” It is not time to engage in nonsense and intra-party fighting.
Robinson stated in a press release that the allegations against him were outright lies. They were fabricated by a political party to distract voters from Josh Stein’s disastrous record. “The people of North Carolina deserve to know the truth and I will do everything in my power to ensure that they receive it, with full transparency.”
Binnall said his investigators, which include a former FBI officer, are working quickly, even though the investigation is still in its infancy. Binnall has previously represented former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn, as well as former Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.).
Binnall said, “We’re just at the beginning of our investigation. But one thing I have learned from my experience as a lawyer is that people are very likely to manipulate the facts to fit a certain narrative, particularly in politics. There are many ways to manipulate information, including using technology. We don’t know what the full extent is yet.”
Binnall didn’t point the finger at CNN but claimed that there are “left-wing actors” in this country who have a playbook that they use to deceive and mislead Americans by releasing stories and making allegations late in a political cycle. He gave as examples claims made in the media in advance of the 2020 elections that the Hunter Biden Laptop story may have been disinformation as well as unproven accusations that Trump colluded before the 2016 election with Russia.
“Wait and see what happens.” Watch and see. Binnall stated, “And judge for yourself because these allegations are scandalous.” I think they were brought up very late in the campaign for a good reason. We’re going into the details, so I would advise the North Carolina voters to wait until they have the full facts before making a decision.
Robinson released a video when the CNN report was first published. He compared it to the “high tech lynching” Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas described he faced during the Supreme Court confirmation process after he had been accused of sexually harassing Anita Hill.
Binnall acknowledged that this is the situation his client faces. “Clarence Thomas was in hell. All Americans should know this now. Binnall stated that it was a high-tech lynching of Clarence Thomas. It could very well be the same here,” Binnall said. “But we will follow the facts, rather than try to guess what they are. In this case, we will let the facts lead us.”
Robinson’s lawyer added, “When someone doesn’t have anything to hide, they want a thorough investigation.” “And I think that it was important that Mr. Robinson came to us to conduct the investigation and to then take appropriate actions based on these results.”
