Nancy Pelosi, House Speaker Emerita Rep. (D-CA), responded on Thursday’s CNN broadcast “The Lead” to a question about President Joe Biden having not had a full Cabinet Meeting in almost a year and whether the White House was hiding Biden’s cognition condition by saying that Biden is “a consequential President.”

Pelosi said, “I was expecting Joe Biden to appear on State of the Union.” I’ve never wanted to debate his name, because he is always — it’s not funny, but he’s just a joke. He said no, he was looking forward to the event. He was confident in his decision. I have been a California party chair and also a leader and speaker for my candidates in Congress and others — not mine, but our own — and so, I would always say that if you are going to a discussion, do two things. Have a clear head and remember what Christine, my daughter says: the Tour de France…is fought in bed. Get some rest and be clear. You know what you care about. You know why you’re here. You want people to know what you feel. You don’t need to memorize anything. It’s not necessary to spend days preparing. When I saw him I thought he was over-prepared, and I didn’t think it was a good thing.

Jake Tapper, the host of Jake Tapper’s show, asked: “Didn’t you think this was all there was to it? Since last October, the President hasn’t had a full cabinet meeting. Some Democrats I have spoken to think he is not communicating as well as he once did. They think the White House was hiding it from senior Democrats such as you, and keeping close control on who saw him.”

Pelosi replied, “I believe this President — he’s a consequential president. During his tenure in office, he accomplished great things.”

Tapper asked how history would view Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race in 2024. Pelosi replied that Biden would be remembered for his unselfishness. Pelosi said that she hadn’t spoken to Biden for weeks, but it’s not unusual.
