California’s city council passed a controversial measure supporting Palestinians in Gaza. Local Israeli supporters claim that the resolution will “only encourage the Hamas Nazi terrors” and “greenlight endless attempts to murder more Jews.”
The measure that states Palestinians “are currently facing a campaign ethnic cleansing and collective punishing by the state Israel” passed in Richmond, a Bay Area city early on Wednesday morning with a vote of 5-1. The public hearing, which lasted several hours before the vote, became heated with some shouting.
I’m a Richmond-based resident of Jewish descent. “I totally oppose this Resolution because it’s full of Lies that will only encourage the Hamas Nazi Terrorists and their Supporters and add to the Suffering of the Poor Palestinians for Decades,” said one resident.
Another woman asked, “Please vote against this resolution.” “Do not approve the interminable attempts to kill Jews.”

Richmond Mayor Eduardo Martinez said during the hearing, “Some people say this resolution is antisemitic,” “but it is not.”
He said, “There was not a single word to say that we were against the Jewish people.” If it sounds one-sided it is because it’s a narrative that was ignored.
Some of the audience members applauded these comments.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the only council member who voted against the resolution was Cesar Zepeda. He expressed his concern that the resolution could cause division.
He said, “I want to bring people together as a community in order to promote peace.”
