Bishop Blasts Biden for Using Pope to Justify Pro-Abortion Stance

As I reported previously, Joe Biden was asked by a reporter about Catholic bishops who “demand that federal tax dollars do not fund abortion”.

Devout Catholic Biden became angry and shouted, “No, they’re not all doing this…nor the Pope.”

Biden’s comments were not true. In a letter, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops calls on Congress to stop taxpayer funding of abortions. The U.S. Conference Catholic Bishops’ Pro-life Committee chairman, Bishop Michael Burbidge from Arlington, Virginia, wrote that the “government should not fund the destruction of innocent preborn babies” and that “congressional actions are required.”

“Protecting taxpayers against being forced to pay for abortions in violation of conscience is a principle that has enjoyed broad support across America, regardless of the passionate views they may have on the subject. It has also saved lives,” said Bishop Michael Burbidge of the Diocese of Arlington, who heads the Committee on Pro-Life Activities of the USCCB.

Biden once supported this fervently. Biden supported that position until he was forced to run for President. In 2019, he changed his position to appeal to the liberal Democratic base.

Many Catholics were offended that Biden suggested that Pope Francis would not be against federal funding of abortion. Let’s not forget that Pope Francis may hold “liberal” views on certain issues. But he is clear that abortion is wrong. He compared abortion to “hiring hitmen” and stated that humans should “leave the killing to animals”.

Bishop Joseph Strickland of Tyler, Texas, lashed out at Joe Biden’s attempt to use the Pope as a justification for his actions. He was not afraid to rip into Biden.

“Mr. Biden can’t be allowed to twist the words of Pope Francis in this way,” wrote Bishop Strickland. “I implore the Vatican press office to emphatically clarify that Pope Francis rightly calls abortion murder. It is time to denounce Biden’s fake Catholicism.”

It’s great that the Bishop spoke out. We will have to wait and see what the Vatican has to say. Pope Francis is often silent even when it seems that he should speak. Perhaps he will weigh in if his position is misrepresented, especially on something he considers a great evil.

It is a shame for Biden to make such a statement about Pope Francis, especially as a Catholic. He knows full well both his position and the Church’s. This is the problem with Biden as a whole. He cannot be challenged and his lies continue to lead us into international problems.
